It was incredibly tempting to head to mainland Europe for the holidays and steep in the gloriousness of German Weihnachtsmärkte but we wanted to explore our new country and give the Bri’ish festivities a go!
Our first stop was York, which I absolutely loved. Even during the planning process, York was so user-friendly and had so many kid-centric options. And once we arrived, it didn’t disappoint! Certainly one of my favorite British cities thus far! The York Minster was not only gorgeous, but also so welcoming to children! They had amazing Explorer Backpacks for kids to borrow, which were filled with magnifying glasses, binoculars, scavenger hunts, colored pencils, and more! I have never seen my kids so engaged in a church/cathedral before. I figured we’d pop in for a look-see, but we were there for over an hour!

My favorite; however, was Clifford’s Tower. The kids have developed a small fascination with garderobes (castle toilets), so they piddled around there quite a bit!

And watch this series as T1 falls over and T2 just laughs and then walks away. Jeez.

York still has its medieval walls, which we enjoyed walking along!

Our burgeoning Harry Potter fan really enjoyed a wizard tour and a walk along the Shambles, which claims to be very Diagon Alley-ish.

British Christmas markets can’t hold a candle to German ones, but we did find a stall for my most favorite winter drink ever! Another win for York!!
