Whilst planning our trip to the beach, I discovered a Bug Zoo! Complete with bug-petting experience! We most certainly couldn’t pass up the chance to get friendly with some creepy crawlies!
Personally, I’m a big leafcutter ant fan. If I had to be an insect, I’d probably be one of these.

This ginormous grasshopper guy had to be kept under lock and key!

And when one finds oneself faced with a gross spider…get artsy with it!

Did anyone else know that scorpions glow in the dark?! I most certainly did not!
Apparently, there is a chemical in scorpion exoskeletons that makes them glow under UV lights. Scientists aren’t completely sure why this phenomenon has evolved, but it could: be a defense against predators, confuse prey, be used as intraspecies communication, or even help them determine the intensity of sunlight. Whichever the natural reason for scorpion luminescence, it’s actually quite detrimental in regards to human collectors. Some species of scorpion are endangered due to the ease of collection by humans yielding black lights.

Finally it was our time to cuddle some insects! Joe was the baby wrangler, and the other kids had mixed feelings, but I was totally diggin’ it!

Despite my phone now being filled with pics (taken by T1 & T2) of every single insect on the property, I still loved this place! I might start my own Bug Zoo after I retire! 😊
