We all know I love me some pinnipeds! The family headed to Horsey Beach to try and spot some adorable baby seals. There is three miles of beach along the Norfolk coast that is home to a huge grey seal colony. It was cold and windy and generally unpleasant, but there were plenty of seals on display, in all the stages of life. The pup-count prior to our visit had been 3,588!

But what was really the highlight of this trip wasn’t the seal pups, believe it or not! It was our Royal Family sighting! We decided to spend the day at Pensthorpe Nature Preserve, which just so happens to be about 30min from Sandringham, where the Royal Family spends the Christmas holidays.
As we were walking past the outdoor play structure, I saw two children who looked strikingly like the royal children. The girl shouted “Now George!” to an adult who was swinging them around a massive, circular swing-system. I knew it was them! As Joe walked by, I whisper “Those are the royal children!” He didn’t believe me.
A bit later we were using the indoor play area because the weather was crap and I decided to meander over to the windows and just have a little look outside. Yup. It was absolutely them. As they walked past the window, I started snapping pics like a pap.

Here’s the thing: I was the only person fangirling on the future king. There were no paparazzi. There were no citizens asking for selfies. There weren’t even any loitering onlookers (except for me). There were probably 50 people in the indoor play area and I was the only one standing at the floor-to-ceiling windows trying to capture proof of what I was seeing.
It actually made me feel really good that these kids could enjoy life without anyone bothering them, if only just for this afternoon. They were genuinely just kids being kids…on a playground.
I got the proof I needed, and with some good zooming, was able to convince Joe that royalty was in our midst. He still didn’t care. Maybe the entire place knew and they didn’t care either. Maybe I’m the fool.
