DUXFORD AIR SHOW

Another weekend, another set of air shows! And finally some proper summer weather!! This one was at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, which is very close to us. So close, that T1 had already been here on a field trip with his school. So he was really excited to show us around and be the local tour guide!

What’s cool about Duxford, is that it is the home of a B-17, which is historically tied to Joe’s Wing. During WWII, the 100th Air Refueling Wing (Joe’s current base) used to be the 100th Bomb Group and was comprised of B-17’s. It was so active in the fight and lost so many lives that it became known as the “Bloody Hundredth”. If you’re a military history buff, you can find all the details by clicking here or here. If you’re more into watching history, just tune your Apple TV to Masters of the Air.

This exact airplane, the “Sally B”, was not used during WWII. She currently acts as a flying memorial to the American airmen who fell during the war. She is privately owned and travels around the UK to educate and enlighten anyone who climbs aboard!

We certainly enjoyed exploring this ‘Flying Fortress’!

This is not the end of the air shows! Stay tuned for more…
