A few days ago, Joe came home and announced, “I’m hosting the King on base this weekend.” I was like, “What?!?”
It was all very hush-hush, but the King’s usual travel arrangements were unavailable…so he came here!

Once we were permitted access to the photos, I saw them and was so proud of Joe. And then I said, “What in the world are you and the King of England cracking up about? Like old university chums?”

Airplane jokes, I guess. Super funny, apparently. 😊
What an experience! We tried to explain to T1 what Joe had spent the day doing, but in these pictures, Charles just looks like Charles. To a kid, a king isn’t a ‘King’ without a crown and scepter. So we pulled up a few images from Coronation Day, and compared them side-by-side, in hopes that would help. It didn’t.
Someday though, we are going to show all the kids these photographs, and they are going to think their dad is the coolest person on Earth. For at least a few minutes. Such is life.

Post-production update: On 10th September, T2 came out of her swim class and the teacher said to me, “She did great today! She told me that her dad met the King.” The teacher gave me a kids-say-the-darndest-things look. I just smiled at T2 reassuringly, nodded my head matter-of-factly and said, “You’re right! He did!” and gave her a high five. I love that a 3yr old finds pride in her dad’s accomplishments!
