At brekkie:
T1: What are we going to do today?
Me: Go to a castle.
T1: Is it ruined?
Me: (chuckling…because I have a thing for ruins) Yes, it is.
T1: Why are there so many castles here?
T2: Are there knights there?
Me: Because it’s England and someday you will appreciate that I took you to so many castles. And no, no knights.
T2: What about princesses? Will there be a princess?
Me: Ummmmm…nope.
T2: (disappointed)
So off we went, to Framlingham Castle.

My kids love audio tours. And I love that they love audio tours. And they actually learn things! But trying to learn something from my own audio tour while herding two “plugged in” children is a parenting skill I am far from mastering. So, in terms of a history lesson, I don’t have much. Framlingham was once used as a prison for priests. One queen was a Protestant and decided that most of the priests needed to be put in prison. Also, the fancy chimneys were a Tudor-era addition to the castle and completely non-functional. That’s all I learned, sorry!

The views from the castle walls are wonderful! This sign look familiar? We saw it in Scarborough. I guess it’s a thing! 😉

This was a lovely day-trip for the kids and I. At least I thought so! Next time they complain about going to a castle, I’m going to show them these pics, so they can see how miserable they were:
