Brekkie conversation:
T1: What are we doing for Adventure Day?
Me: We’re going to a castle.
T1: Huh? I thought we were going to the zoo.
Me: I know. I changed the plan. We’ll go to the zoo on the way home from the SCUBA shop on Thursday.
T1: Okay. Can we watch a movie when we get home?
Me: Sure.
T1: YAAAAAAZZZZZZZ!!!!!! (insert Kevin McCallister-style excited running around the house.)
Yes, yes, here we find ourselves again — taking a trip to castle ruins! What can I say? There are just so many options within an hour’s drive! And with the place basically to ourselves, I can think of no better way to spend a summer day!

Castle Rising Castle (Yes, that is the real name. Photo evidence included!) was the retirement home of Queen Isabella, after she deposed her husband in 1327 and then was overthrown by her son. She spent her days here reading, hawking, and horseback riding.

And despite their begrudging participation in the day’s activities, there certainly was a lot of exploring…

and twirling and running and posing…

and an epic game of Floor is Lava…

and so much climbing…

Soooo…yup…looks like yet another terrible, horrible, no good, very bad castle-day for the kids.
