Our plan was to visit Ben Youssef Medersa, a theological college built in 1565. It was the home to hundreds of scholars for four centuries, closing its doors in 1960.
Except every time we set out for Ben Youssef, something derailed us: getting lost, shopping in the souks, chatting too long on a rooftop terrace, etc. Finally, we set out with a can-do mindset. Despite getting lost again, we made it!

Ben Youssef is a beautiful place, with really interesting architecture and incredibly intricate tilework and plaster detailing. But the crowds were insane. And the Instagrammers were worse. After an hour or so of exploring, we left and found a quiet spot to cool down and not be pushed around by hoards of people.

So that’s it from Marrakesh! There is still so much to tell about our trip, but I have been struggling to find the words to describe it. It is honestly like no place I have experienced before.

I’m so glad L and I were able to make this happen! At one point she confessed, “When you left Germany, I thought I would never see you again.” This broke my heart, because I never felt that way. As two adventurous travelers and independent women, I knew we’d figure it out. I never would have believed though, in a million years, that we would have a reunion in Marrakesh! So, we made a vow to see each other at least once every ten years from here until forever…in whatever country suits us!
Cheers to that!
