stories of five non-Brits on the Great Isle

MY FAVORITE THING

Just like Oprah, right?! Except there is only one, and you can’t buy it for your friends. Okay, maybe not exactly like Oprah. I digress.

My favorite sight in Malta was St. Agatha’s Tower, which the kids aptly nicknamed “the read castle”. It was built in 1649 as part of a coastal protection plan, and a key player in communications with Valletta. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovation, but the good part of that was we had the outside all to ourselves!

I loved it because everywhere we went, there it was! From the front of the car, I’d yell, “There it is! There’s the red castle.” No response. Nobody loved it like I did. I was the only player in this delightful game!

We spent many a seaside meal with a “red castle” view! See if you can spot it.

Maybe next time we’ll be able to explore the inside! And maybe next time someone else will love it too!
