I wanted to take the kids to the caves of the Blue Grotto (not to be confused with the Blue Hole or the Blue Lagoon), but the tiny boats were not operating during the whole of our visit, due to weather. So with our extra day, we decided to board the big ferry and head to Gozo!

Our first adventure was hiking to the Blue Hole, a popular dive site.

There were beautiful views of the Med and lots of cool “fossils” to find!

Then, the big kids and I hiked up to Dwejra Tower. This structure was part of system built in 1652, in which thirteen towers around the coast of Malta would stand guard. Each tower would be inter-visible and able to communicate with the others by day or night. The tower was manned by 4 men, 24hrs a day.

More great views!

After lunch, we headed to the salt pans and “lunar hill”.

A few kids needed an ice cream break, but my little buddy was up for some exploring.

And then it was time to head back! On the way home, my favorite “red castle” gave me one last glimpse, under the setting sun of our last day in Malta.
