stories of five non-Brits on the Great Isle

SKIING 2.0

This year, I made better choices navigating the front door of the house and had two healthy feet! So we headed back to Scotland for a second attempt at a ski holiday! The big kids both did awesome, despite some challenging weather! T1 continues to improve in strength and skill, and thank goodness, because his independence was greatly appreciated as I navigated the slopes with T2 for the first time!

After skiing each day, we enjoyed sledding, snowball fights, and lots of “snow wrastling”! And despite this photo, T3 really did enjoy himself!

I don’t have a lot of photos from skiing because I make a ski video each year. I have hours and hours of video of myself skiing as a kid, thanks to the cinematography skills of my father. He used to carry around a full-sized VHS recorder on his shoulder, while the entire family skied about. I have a photograph of him doing this, but all of my old photos are in storage until we return to the US. So, these screen grabs of 1980’s VHS tapes will have to do.

I think about my dad so frequently during these ski adventures. And I hear him in myself, as I coax the kids into “one more run”, over and over again. Sweet T1, my non-complainer, finally called me out. “You keep saying that, Mom. Please promise me that there really is only one more run.” The weather was really hard, and they both lasted longer on the slopes than I could have ever asked for.

I hope my dad would be proud of me. Not only for hustling two beginners up and down the mountain, but for documenting every moment, every fall, every snow plow on video. Thank Heavens for smart phones!
