About a year ago, Joe and I were assessing our “life”. Meaning: we were looking at the kids’ term breaks and deciding where we wanted to go and when, frequently referencing a travel wish list we created shortly after this day.
I told him I was perfectly fine if we never made it to Northern Ireland. We had already been to the Republic of Ireland and nothing in NI was really lighting my britches on fire. Then Joe said, “How can you say you’ve lived in the United Kingdom, but never actually been to all the countries that comprise the UK?” Fair point. I’d make that deal, Utivich.
So, Northern Ireland here we come! And how glad I was that we did! It was incredible!
Our first stop was Dunluce Castle, because Mom doesn’t pass up castle ruins! Built in the 13th century and desolate since 1690, there were several times when I wondered how this relic hadn’t slipped into the sea. It seemed to be clinging for life to the rock cliffs.

Watching the kids run around and explore a ruined castle will never get old.

Next stop was Giant’s Causeway. It’s reputation proceeds it, obviously, but I think that reputation is undeserved, personally. There were so many tourists, it felt like we were participating in a giant ant hill. I’m just not into these overcrowded experiences anymore.

The kids, however, really enjoyed climbing around the basalt columns, and had lots of questions about how they formed. I was just glad we left without a sprained ankle or head gash.

And this one…my miniature Influencer? “Take a picture of me, Mom!” How could I not oblige?! She clearly loved the vibe at Giant’s Causeway! I did not pose any of these…I simply pressed the shutter when instructed!

The boys enjoyed the visit too…in their own ways!
