Our next adventure was a day trip to the largest of the Aran Islands, Inis Mór! There are three islands in Galway Bay, and we chose Inis Mór because it was the most family-friendly. In order to maximize the day, we decided to fly a tiiiiiiny little airplane to the island. As the weather for the day predicted strong winds, I was a tiiiiiny bit nervous. But we weighed in for the flight, received our seat assignments, and off we went! Winds and all!

This little guy loved every bit of the 8-minute flight!

Once on the island, we climbed aboard our next mode of transportation for the day — a pony & trap! Our guide, Thomas, was born and raised on Inis Mór and gave us a tour of the island. He had a really interesting perspective and shared a lot of information about how the island has changed since his childhood.

Thomas welcomed anyone to climb up front with him, and T2 took full advantage!

Before lunch, he dropped us off to explore Dún Aonghasa, a prehistoric hill fort teetering at the top of a 100m cliff!

After a lunch of fish n’ chips, we finished our tour and enjoyed a hot toddy in town before heading back to the airport. Our flight back to Galway was as smooth as the way in! The day was a success!

I know my kids won’t remember this day, this flight, or this moment. But I will. And as I watched their little faces enjoy the shifting view out the window, I became verklempt with gratitude for these three amazing souls. I hope their sense of adventure and intrigue is never stifled.
